In December 2023 a ranking of the universities in sport science was announced by the organization ARWU (Shanghai's Global Ranking of Sport Science Schools and Departments 2023). According to this, the Department of Physical Education and Sport Science (DPESS) of the University of Thessaly, continuing the good tradition of previous years, is in positions 101-150 worldwide, and ranked first in Greece based on research activity, publications in quality journals and outreach or recognition of its research work internationally, as well as based on its international degree collaborations
